About

Welcome to Practicing Science Together. My community of (all ages and abilities) science practitioners and I are dedicated to giving you the very best in science education tools, with a focus on authentic experience, inclusive learning modalities, and a wide range of scientific voices.

When I transitioned from research to teaching in 2010 my passion for including all young people in the scientific process drove me to investigate disparities in science education, focus on the needs of students who were being excluded and ignored, and ask myself why the canon of science education is what it is. I have had students score the highest in the history of their school on the IB Biology exam with my class scoring the highest averages. I have worked with incredible teachers in co-taught classes to modify content for those whose understandings and responses don’t fit the institutional model. I taught students who spoke other languages at home, fought for students who were being misunderstood and mistreated, worked through my own children’s accommodation meetings, and championed autistic children’s unique contributions to classrooms. Through it all I have done science with some of the brightest faces and keenest minds I have ever had the privilege to know. Now I have developed a strong perspective, a full library of learner-tested tools and resources, and a whole community-based approach that I am thrilled to share with you.

I hope you enjoy practicing science with your community of learners, regardless of if their responses to the world are verbal, analytical, multisensory, or creative. If you have any questions or comments, please contact me in the contact form or check out my instagram (@practicingscience).
